Small Molecule Expertise

Many of the physiological functions of the body are mediated by receptors for small signal molecules. Small molecule technologies have long been used as sources for new drug candidates in the pharmaceutical industry. Aderis has expertise in designing small molecules that target specific families of G protein-coupled receptors and enzymes.

Small molecule drug candidates are in many ways more attractive than large molecules such as antibodies and proteins. Experience has shown that small molecules generally lend themselves to easier formulation, have a broader array of dosage forms, have greater potential for bio-availability and are more efficiently manufactured.

Our proprietary small-molecule drug candidates either cause or prevent activation of receptors and enzymes in a manner similar to that of natural signal molecules produced by the body. By developing compounds that selectively target single receptor subtypes, Aderis believes that it can produce the desired therapeutic effect while minimizing side effects often produced by less selective compounds.
